HONOR FLIGHT TOTAL RAISED SO FAR

$116,675.00

(as of Friday August 20, 2010)

On September 28, 2010 a charter plane of World War II Veterans from the Wichita area will take a plane ride that has been 65 years in the planning.  It is called "The Wichita Honor Flight."

The plane will fly Wichita area WWII American Heros to their memorial in Washington DC.

It will be one of the most emotional trips these men and women have ever taken and, for many, the first time they have publically talked about their service during the second world war as they relive the days when the world's fate rested on their shoulders.

The Wichita Honor Flight is a way for all of us to honor these veteran's extraordinary service to their fellowman and their country.  Because of them, we live in a free nation.  And, because of their sacrifice, we are asking that each and every person join in helping us make this flight a reality.

Thanks to the generosity of KFDI and Classic Country 92.3 Listeners, we have raised over $105,000.  This money will fly veterans FREE OF CHARGE on the first ever Kansas Honor Flight on a charter jet.

There are around 1000 WWII Veterans on the  Honor Flight waiting list.  So, future flights are being planned for Wichita, Salina and Garden City.   Donations are still being accepted NOW.  Make a donation on line or send a check.

Through the generosity of the owners of Prairie Rose Chuckwagon Supper, JW and Greg Johnson, we raised $27,658 for the KFDI World War Two Veterans Honor Flight mission Saturday, July 31.

The event included a chance to hear stories from Wichita area WWII veterans Lew Smith, Chuck Chauncey and Al Murphy.   Representatives from Central Prairie Honor Flight, Dan Curtis and Mike Van Campen, were on hand to answer questions and set the stage for a live and silent auction.

Auction items included jewelry from Mike Seltzer Jewelers and Randy Cooper Jewelers; a took kit from Star Lumber; a flight in a simulator from Flight Safety; rare vintage albums; a flying lesson and dinner for two from the Wichita Commemorative Air Force.

Cash and check donations were made throughout the night, including $7500 from the Scholfield family of dealerships in Wichita.

And proceeds from tickets sold for Saturday night's Prairie Rose Chuckwagon Supper dinner and show were also donated to the cause.

Many thanks to the special people who came to the event and made it such a huge success!
